Dr. Aytekin Oto is the Chairman of the Department of Radiology and also has a joint appointment at the Section of Urology. Dr. Oto has a wide range of experience and expertise in the imaging of diseases affecting abdomen and pelvis. He has substantial experience on prostate MR interpretation, MR guided prostate biopsy, and MR guided laser therapy of prostate cancer. His clinical and research interest focus is development and clinical application of novel prostate MRI acquisition and interpretation to facilitate and improve the efficiency of prostate cancer diagnosis and develop image guided prostate therapy options for the appropriate patients diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Our group is working on development of image guided therapy options (such as laser ablation and high frequency ultrasound) for focal treatment of prostate cancer. Working together with our colleagues in Urology, we have successfully completed a Phase I clinical trial on MR guided laser ablation of prostate cancer.

An accomplished author, he has published more than 120 articles and has authored numerous book chapters. His research is supported by several industry and federal grants including RO1 and R21 NIH grants. Dr. Oto has given more than 100 presentations and lectures at scientific meetings around the world. He also serves as an Associate Editor for Radiology, reviewer for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and several journals. Dr. Oto is the recipient of many awards and distinctions for his teaching, research, and clinical work including 2013 RSNA honored educator award.
